Formation Thermal Conductivity Test & Data Analysis
Within the design phase of a geothermal project, LoopTech provides the necessary data via a TC test. This test provides an accurate measurement of the thermal-conductivity value of the existing soil conditions. The test involves drilling one bore and installing a loop and grout. A small pump and heater module are attached to the loop to circulate water for 48 hours. Data is collected from the run cycle and processed by engineers. Geothermal Energy Systems provides a professional detailed report to the client with all the pertinent data and graphs.

Descriptive Summary of Work The work process is to conduct geothermal bore hole drilling, loop installation and grouting for up to 300 feet of HDPE one (1) inch diameter pipe in an approximate 24 hour period. The grouted hole must remain idle for a period 96 hours (4 days). The test equipment is then attached and the test process is administered for 48 consecutive hours. Data collected will be evaluated by an independent engineering firm. The engineer’s report will then be submitted to our client.

Loop Field Design
Geothermal Energy Systems works with engineers that are experienced in geothermal heating and cooling and have the latest in design software to design  your loop field heat exchanger or to check your existing design. Additionally, our team can design a balanced loop field via flow calculations. Our designs do not require expensive balancing valves that promote field leaks, generate purge issues, and require additional expense to adjust. Geothermal Energy Systems can work with you from start to finish ensuring your project’s success. Drilling & Loop Installation
From the exploration of the bore hole to project completion, Geothermal Energy Systems drills in locations with a wide range of soil conditions. A drilling rig is used to drill bore holes into which the loop pipes are installed. Geothermal Energy Systems has the capability to drill 500’ holes and install up to 1-1/4” loops. This allows the installation to be completed with a minimal amount of disruption to the existing site. Geothermal Energy Systems can accommodate a variety of drilling requirements.
 
Vertical loops are our specialty because they are commonly used for installations at large commercial or educational facilities. Vertical loops run deep into the ground to reach depths that maintain a relatively constant temperature, are not affected by seasonal climates, and are ideal for properties lacking large areas of land base. Geothermal Energy Systems has found that vertical loops are superior in long term performance when compared to other geothermal heat exchangers.

Enhanced Thermal Conductivity Grouting
The latest mixtures of thermally enhanced grout are pumped into the bore holes of vertical loop systems to seal the hole and provide a thermal conductive path. Geothermal Energy Systems understands the importance of providing the optimal thermal conductive path through the proper grout mixture for each project we perform.

Trenching
Our experienced operators conduct the professional trenching necessary to optimize loop field installations for every project. Our turn-key, comprehensive project services employ state of the art machinery capable of trenching in even the tightest, most challenging sites.

Exterior Manifolds
The Geothermal Energy Systems team supports any exterior manifold configuration and size. Exterior manifolds or headers include reverse returns, short headers and straight connections.

Poly Vaults
Geothermal Energy Systems partners with leading HDPE Vault manufacturers to custom design vaults for your projects. Poly Vaults provide extended life cycle performance as the “material of choice” for geothermal applications.

Supply & Return Lines
Geothermal Energy Systems installs supply and return HDPE lines. Typical sizes range from 2” to 12”; however, our team can install any size.

Interior Piping
Geothermal Energy Systems connects the loop field to the interior piping of the mechanical system, allowing HVAC contractors to focus on the air handlers, duct, and controls. Our team specializes in interior piping that uses HDPE, which is superior to other products.  HDPE is cost effective, has no insulation factor, and requires no introduction of rust prohibiting inhibitors. Our team also assists mechanical contractors and engineers with the design of interior piping routing.

Flushing & Purging
Geothermal Energy Systems uses Purge Rite to purge and flush our systems. At a recent ASHRAE presentation, it was stated that 8 out of 10 geothermal heating and cooling system failures are due to improper flushing and purging.
